Accessibility
Silver Current Press believes literature should be open to every reader. This site is designed to meet, and where possible exceed, the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.
What we have done
- Type set at 18 pixels or larger for body text, with line-height generous enough for screen reading.
- Colour contrast tested against WCAG AA at every typographic level, in both light and dark modes.
- Light and dark reading modes, toggled at the top right of every page; the choice is remembered between visits.
- Semantic HTML throughout — proper headings, landmarks, lists, and form labels — so that screen readers may navigate the site with ease.
- All images carry descriptive alternative text. Decorative ornaments are marked aria-hidden so that screen readers may pass over them.
- Keyboard navigation across all pages and forms; visible focus rings on every interactive element.
- A motion-respecting design: animations and reveals are disabled for visitors who have asked their operating system to reduce motion.
What we are still working on
Accessibility is a continuing practice, not a finished product. If you find a page, a form, or a document that does not work well with your assistive technology, please write to james@silvercurrentpress.com with a short description of the problem and we will repair it as quickly as we can, generally within thirty days.
Books in accessible formats
Each Silver Current Press title is published as a fully reflowable e-book in EPUB 3, with semantic markup, proper heading levels, alternative text on illustrations, and a navigable table of contents. Print editions are set in generously sized type with adequate leading. Large-print editions and audio editions are produced where reader demand and resources permit.
